About Peter & Masha Plotkin

Peter Plotkin

Peter Plotkin was Born on April 1, 1879 in Mogilewsky, Belarus, but would spend most of his youth being raised in Petrograd, Russia. When Peter was around 7 years old, his family was killed in the Russian Pogroms, leading Peter to be adopted by an aristocratic family.

This family would give Peter access to an education in fine arts, literature and drama that would unknowingly lay the groundwork for Peter’s passion for arts education, and in turn, the future creation of The Plotkin Foundation

In 1898, Peter left Russia following the failed uprising against the Czar, Nicholas II. After Peter’s departure from Russia, he spent much of his time traveling to locations such as Alexandria and Cairo, as well as Rome, Paris & London.

In 1910, Peter then left for the United States from England aboard the USS St. Paul. When Peter finally arrived in New York, he had been quoted in saying “I do not like New York!” as he was quite unimpressed by the hustle and bustle of the city.

Peter’s first marriage took place in 2015, and would prove to be a short lived marriage of less than a year to a woman named Bertha. It was soon after their separation that he would come to meet Esther “Masha” Mosesman. The two would quickly fall in love and become married soon after.

Masha Plotkin

Born in Chernobyl, Ukraine in 1893, Masha Plotkin was one of ten children. Due to financial restrictions, her family emigrated at different times throughout the early 1900s, leaving Masha to have emigrated sometime between 1910 and 1916.

During her marriage to Peter, Masha was known as a loving, caring homemaker with an inspirational devotion to her family. She has been credited by her sons as being the glue that held their family together.

Masha would pass away on November 14th, 1966.
